These initiatives aim to empower social entrepreneurs, foster innovation in addressing societal challenges, and create a robust ecosystem conducive to sustainable social impact and economic growth.
Promote agroecological approaches that minimize chemical inputs, enhance soil health, increase resilience to climate impacts, and improve livelihood.
Environmental conservation efforts, such as the protection and restoration of forests, wetlands, and other natural habitats, play a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Forests serve as carbon sinks, absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and storing it in trees and soil. Preserving and expanding these carbon sinks helps mitigate the accumulation of greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming. Conservation efforts also safeguard biodiversity and maintain ecosystem functions. Biodiversity enhances ecosystem resilience, enabling them to better adapt to the impacts of climate change. Healthy ecosystems provide essential services like water purification, pollination, and climate regulation, which are vital for sustaining a balanced and resilient environment.
Climate-resilient agriculture is essential for ensuring food security and sustaining the livelihoods of farmers and rural communities. By adjusting agricultural practices to changing climate conditions, farmers can maintain or increase productivity, improve crop yields, and secure their income and food production. Climate-resilient agriculture promotes the sustainable management and conservation of natural resources. Practices such as agroforestry, conservation agriculture, and precision farming contribute to enhancing soil health, reducing erosion, conserving water resources, and preserving biodiversity. These practices are critical for the long-term sustainability of agricultural systems.
To achieve these goals within five years, MADE-Nepal will:
- Organize tree planting campaigns and participate in reforestation efforts to restore forest ecosystems, enhance biodiversity, and combat climate change.
- Promote sustainable land management practices such as conservation agriculture, agroforestry, and organic farming.
- Advocate for environmental policies and regulations that protect natural resources, preserve biodiversity, and promote sustainable development.
- Support eco-friendly tourism and promote responsible outdoor recreation.
- Encourage farmers to diversify their crop portfolios by cultivating a variety of crops with different climate tolerances.
- Implement soil conservation practices such as conservation tillage, cover cropping, and mulching to enhance soil structure, moisture retention, and organic matter content, thereby reducing erosion and improving soil fertility.
- Promote the adoption of agroecological approaches and organic farming practices.Offer social entrepreneurs essential support systems, including mentorship, training, and networking opportunities.
