Narrative Description of the Project: 

The project aimed to develop linkages between a feed manufacturing industry and local maize producers with viable and sustainable business in the hilly and Terai districts. Increase access to high yielding maize seeds to the farmers. Improving smallholder’s access to micro nutrients, soil conditioners, soil testing facility and information on soil health management. Promoting maize cultivation with buyback arrangements and improving commercial market linkage for smallholder maize farmers through poultry /livestock feed mills and local grain aggregators /traders (Public Private Partnership Model).

Description of the Actual Services Provided by Your Staff:

  • Improve access to better quality registered hybrid seeds to the small holder farmers in order to increase the income source of farmers through higher productivity;
  • Improve access to better quality improved variety of Open Pollinated (OP) seeds to the small holder farmers in order to increase the income source of farmers through higher productivity;
  • Increase farmers’ access to improved soil for better production of maize/crop through soil testing and complementing use of micronutrients in order to increase the income source of smallholder through higher productivity;
  • Promote commercial maize production through establishment of linkage between feed mills /traders and maize producers along with making a buy back arrangement between maize farmers and feed mills/traders; Increasing awareness and access to high yielding registered varieties of maize seeds: pre-sowing meetings, promotional activities, demonstrations etc.;
  • Providing technical support to the farmers and set up information booth; Network expansion of dealers/Agrovets, staff to support activities and booklets distribution; 7 high yielding registered maize seeds have been promoted and the promotion and marketing activities such as demonstrations, jeep campaigns, dealers’ meetings and awareness campaigns; 
  • 96 pre-sowing meetings have been completed. Total of 2670 farmers were benefited; 126 demonstrations and post-harvest activities have been conducted; Identified seed producer smallholder farmers and potential areas for OP maize seed production in 9 districts Achham, Surkhet, Salyan, Pyuthan, Dang, Dailekh and Kavre;
  • Collected seeds and packaged seeds under their label. Total of 76.5 MT of improved OP seeds has been collected from 12 seed producer groups from 5 districts (Dang, Dailekh, Bardiya, Salyan, Kavre); Conducted scoping to identify potential areas and cooperatives for soil testing service and soil conditioner promotion in 50 cooperatives;
  • Conducted eight 4 days technician training for the soil technicians of cooperatives; Distributed samples in each cooperative for promoting soil testing services and soil conditioner;
  • Expanded sales network of the company in eight districts through mentioned cooperative for marketing soil conditioner and micro-nutrients;
  • 4 TOTs have been conducted comprising of 65 lead farmers on maize cultivation. Amongst the 65 demo plots 21 demo plots were showcasing usage of mechanization in maize farming;
  • Around 800 farmers have been linked with improved/high yielding maize seeds and have participated in pre-sowing meeting; All the selected lead farmers have been trained as local aggregators to strengthen the maize collection mechanism of concerned company;

Narrative Description of the Project: Muchchok Resilience Project (MRP) is implementing at Ajirkot-5 of Gorakha district with the financial assistance of IM Swedish Development Partner. The major areas of intervention are social mobilization, economic empowerment, advocacy and lobbying. Major targeted beneficiaries are marginalized community focusing on women, magar and Dalit. Total target beneficiaries of this project are 447 hhs comprising of 158 Dalit, 95 Janajati , 268 women and 194 others.

Description of the Actual Services Provided by Your Staff: Three vegetable farming groups (50 hhs), four goat rearing groups (76 hhs), two bee keeping groups (45 hhs) one coffee farming group (10 hhs) and one pig rearing group (10 hhs) formed and reformed; Groups’ members functioned smoothly with starting of saving and credit program. Beside that group member raised different women and Dalit issues and shared in monthly groups’ meeting for further step; Network (13 members) were formed and linkage with concerned government stakeholder; Dhaka weaving group with 24 members regularly engaged in economic activities; 447 marginalized and small holder farmers have access to agriculture inputs, technical support, and market and credit facilities; Out of 450 right holder increased their awareness on ESC right, government policies for women right, women budget, policies for Dalit and janajti and also know the ward and municipality level budget and its implementation processes; Four Schools prepared and implemented SIP effectively; Increased access of quality education to 300 students (140 boys and 160 girls) from 4 schools; Three advocacy campaign done by rights holders on marketing issue, Dalit and women issues and gradually getting access on government service at Rural Municipality level; Five dropped out students were reenrolled as a result of child club and community sensitization;

Narrative Description of the Project: After devastating earthquake happened in 25th April 2015 with epicenter of Gorakha, it was felt to introduce the immediate relief package to the affected community of the district. For this, Mirkot VDC of the district had been selected as a first phase program and distributed complete package of the relief materials in the systematic way. Based upon the most prioritized and categorized as very affected VDC by the GoN (PDNA Report2015), Muchchok VDC was selected for the implementation of the recovery project. There were almost all households collapsed and killed more than 25 people by the catastrophic earthquake. In that connection, this Muchchok Recovery Project was designed and intervened. This project was designed with the consultation of multi stakeholders (DDC, DDRC, DADO, DLASO and Governments’ line agencies, VDC and affected households).

Description of the Actual Services Provided by Your Staff: 5 Demo plot of vegetable farming under plastic tunnel, Drip irrigation and Bio-pesticides established; 24 Dalit skilled mason and 14 Janajati women generating income regularly after getting earthquake resilient building construction and Dhaka cloth making training; Three persons took place LRP training on animal health; The LRP provide services to the farmers; 2 vegetable farming, 1 Cardamom, 2 Coffee, 1 honey bee farming and 2 Goat farming group formed and activated; Different level of discussion and meeting among production groups was done for network formation; 21 women participated in the psychosocial training; Three schools were equipped with good library and lab (science & computer); 850 hhs got clean drinking water from 10 revived Water supply schemes; 9 disturbed irrigation canal revived and maintained; 238 Ha. land irrigated from revived irrigation schemes; VDC DRR plan was prepared and shared among stakeholders;
