Narrative Description of the Project: The project is designed to increased economic condition of marginalized people of hill area of Kathmandu district. The Kathmandu livelihood project with financial support of World Vision has covered four VDC of Kathmandu district. The project supported increasing sustainable income of marginal farmers from agriculture and others livelihood related infrastructure support. The project emphasized on promoting agro farm skills, technical expertise and upgrading irrigation facilities. Beside that off season vegetable production was focused in different project areas. | ||
Description of the Actual Services Provided by Your Staff: Different types of agriculture and IPM training, market management, group management training were conducted to increase knowledge and capacity of farmers. Regular monitoring and follow up is carried by MADE Nepal head office for better result and outcomes of project. A feasibility study on irrigation was carried out in the project area. Supports were provided for the renovation of irrigation canal, pump facility and drip irrigation, plastic ponds during dry season or in monsoon. For this the local matching funds were collected from DADO (small irrigation). DIO, DDC, VDC & Soil Conservation Office. Cost sharing from farmers group was encouraged up to 50%. Supporting alternative irrigation e.g. drip irrigation in selected VDCs was carried out during dry season. Likewise, more than 50 plastic ponds were constructed to catch rainy season monsoon water. For this the local matching funds were also collected from DADO (small irrigation), DIO, DDC and VDC. The farmers groups and the field technicians were facilitated on it, which directly supported commercial agriculture production in Ramkot: Kasarhok, Purigau, Godamthok; Bhimdhunga: Ghattay Khola, Thaple, DarshanKhola, Pakuri, Khadka gau Ichangu: Kallabari and Naya gau. |
